Dear Jim
Thanks for your latest comment. I know a modest amount about the history of Mexico, and would enjoy talking with you about it some day. Did you read Fire and Blood (written by a German from San Antonio!) It's the best one volume history written in English that I have ever read.

I don't know any one person who can do justice to Mexico's rich history. It is far too complicated. The first thing to know is that the people of Mexico have the best sense of humor of anyone in the entire world, including the Irish. Contrary to what the bishop said, Mexico IS a Catholic country. Above the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a saying from the Psalms. "Deus non fecit pro omni natione." "God has not done such for any other nation." That's for sure. The Communists tried to destroy the Catholic faith in Mexico and they weren't able to do so. The Freemasons tried to destroy the Catholic faith in Mexico and they weren't able to do so either. Viva Mexico!

I hope Pope Francis and the others who guide the Church will remember her as they review acceptable roles of women in the Catholic Church.

Hurrah for Pope Francis!

I read where some conservative Catholic grumbled that the new pope had broken some canon laws by washing the feet of women (girls, anyway) on Holy Thursday, and someone defended him by saying that he hadn't broken any laws, he'd just ignored them. Either way, it's been a great couple of weeks!

Wow! What a refreshing time you suggest, and I'm so happy you included Adam DeVille's comments. We shouldn't all have to think just alike to be in the same struggle toward being good Christians.
